6 Months
When we started the Landing 6 months ago none of us knew what to expect. We weren’t sure if we’d have 5 kids or 200 kids. We have had as many as 33 and as few as one….but we still meet together each Friday.
Adults who know I attend Celebrate Recovery will ask me “what’s the Landing about?” Or they will say, “My kid doesn’t NEED recovery.” First I’d like to clear up a big misconception the Landing is NOT a recovery program. YES, it was created by the same team that created Celebrate Recovery and the book does say The Landing (Celebrate Recovery for Students) BUT I wish it said “The Landing - for teens based on CR Principles”.
What we do is we give kids tools so they can learn how to….admit when they’re wrong, learn how to forgive, how to turn to God first, how to listen, how to obey, how to make amends, how to fill the void with Christ instead of other things, how to stop denying, how to be kind, how to seek Christ first, how to make good choices and how to take time daily to talk with God. What kid doesn’t NEED that??? Geeze, I wish my 3rd grader could be a part of some of these lessons.
I equate it to Friday night church camp. We use practical fun lessons to get their attention and make them think about how they can apply some of these tools in their lives!
The other night at The Landing, we played a little game to represent the stress in our lives. We took books and white Styrofoam cups. The goal was to see how many books we could stack on top of a Styrofoam cup before it crushed it, I think the winner had 7 books on the cup! It was fun!! The books we we’re using to crush cups represents stress in our lives. We all have stuff in our lives that brings stress. When we try to hide that stuff, the stress of hiding it adds to the stress of our secrets. However, when we admit our problems or admit that we’re stressed and get help, we’re better off. James 5:16 “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so you may be healed…”

What does the Landing mean to me?
Sept 9th, 2006 my life changed forever. My lying, dishonest thinking, and secret life was finally brought out into the open. The life I had been living was finally made know by me. God brought me to Celebrate Recovery that night. God started using my hurts, habits, and hang-ups for good. He made me realize that I am not alone in this world. I am not the only one that struggles with life. At that time in my life I was 26 year old. I was still young enough to change my patterns and my life.
I’m now the Ministry Leader over the Landing, what an amazing opportunity! What the Landing means to me is this: The Landing gives teens an opportunity to get to know God and His amazing Grace at an earlier age. Now teens don’t have to wait until college, their first job, or living on their own to realize that they are not alone, and they can handle things that the world throws at them. It means that no matter how big or small the sin - God can forgive it! He can use that sin for His glory.

I am so glad to be a part of a program at MRCC that is changing lives. The Landing is making teens better people, students, and Christians from an early age. I know that my lying didn’t start when I moved out of my parents house. It started with my parents and then just got bigger and bigger until God humbled me enough to be honest with others. The Landing provides that place every Friday night – it’s a safe environment!
Please come and check out what God can do in your life. What secrets are you holding back? What do you need to be honest about this Friday night? Dinner at 6 and the Landing meets in the Summit from 7-9. Honesty is the lesson. Let’s get honest with ourselves and let God do the rest.
Grateful Believer,
Travis

Try it once...
or twice.
Have you checked out The Landing yet? If yes - Yea!!
If no - what's holding you back? Are you scared it'll be weird? Are you scared you'll be called on? Do you think your problems aren't big enough? Are you worried you'll have to "share your feelings in front of the group?"
If you answered YES to any of those questions then congratulations you're normal! It's normal to feel nervous about trying something new...like The Landing!
To ease your mind - you NEVER have to talk if you don't want to. Ever. Never ever. Really, you don't. (I know, you still don't believe me - but you really don't!)
There are no problems too big or too small.
We're there every Friday night, and we usually have about 15-18 students joining us. Give it a chance, try it once!
We'll be there Friday - WILL YOU?
